WWE Pay-Per-View
Sunday Nights
WWE Network / 8 PM - 11 PM EST

  • WWE has broadcast pay-per-views since the 1980s, when its classic "Big Four" events (Royal Rumble, WrestleMania, SummerSlam, and Survivor Series) were first established. The company's PPV lineup expanded to a monthly basis in the mid-1990s and reached its peak of sixteen shows a year in 2006 before returning to twelve in 2012. Pay-per-view shows are typically three hours in length, though budget priced events (e.g., In Your House) were shorter, while premium events such as WrestleMania can approach five hours. Since 2008, all WWE pay-per-views have been broadcast in high definition. Pay-per-view events are a significant part of the revenue stream for WWE.

2017 is winding down, and it’s time to look back at the Superstars, tag teams, and breakout stars that dazzled us in the ring. This was an uncommonly stacked year even by normal standards, so in a twist, WWE.com is actually doing two best-matches lists: This one and a separate list of 10 under-the-radar contests you should seek out during your holiday down time. That list will be live next week.

As for this one? Keep scrolling for our picks for the 25 best matches of 2017, featuring analysis from WWE.com editors as well as comments from the Superstars involved. Here we go.

#8. The Authors of Pain vs. #DIY vs. The Revival — Triple Threat NXT Tag Team Championship Elimination Match (NXT TakeOver: Orlando)

Politics make strange bedfellows, as do two tandems trying to rip away the NXT Tag Team Titles from The Authors of Pain. That was the daunting task at hand for #DIY and The Revival. Despite their well-documented disdain for each other, the two teams found enough common ground to unite against AOP, resulting in unforgettable combinations like Scott Dawson and Johnny Gargano connecting on #DIY’s finisher, the Meeting in the Middle, and Tommaso Ciampa and Dash Wilder hitting The Revival’s favorite move, the Shatter Machine, on Akam & Rezar. Seeing the famous enemies work together was mind-blowing enough, but to witness AOP prevail against the attack was even more astonishing. — JOHN CLAPP

She brings up Enzo Amore getting laid out last week but Dawson says they haven’t been around in 6 weeks. Charly shows us video from last week’s Sasha Banks segment, where The Revival could be seen in the background walking. We posted about this last week. They admit they were here last week but they work here, why wouldn’t they be here?
